It gives me immense joy to welcome you to Lyceum International School, Avissawella, the ninth member of the Lyceum family, established on 2nd October 2022.

Every great journey begins with a vision. Ours began with just 7 students and 3 teachers. Today, that small beginning has grown into a thriving community of more than 500 students and 70 dedicated teachers across our Pre-Primary and Primary sections. While these numbers reflect our growth, what truly defines our journey is the trust, enthusiasm, and sense of belonging that have brought our school community together.

At Lyceum Avissawella, we see education as a journey of discovery, possibility, and personal growth. Our goal is not simply to prepare children for examinations, but also for life prepare them for life. We want every child to develop the confidence to ask questions, the courage to explore new ideas, the resilience to overcome challenges, and the compassion to make a difference.

With the visionary leadership of our Founder | Chairman Emeritus of LIS Patron – LGH, Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, the guidance of our Coordinating Principal Emeritus of LIS & Patron of Institutional Values – LGH, Dr. (Mrs.) Kumari Grero, and the leadership of our Founder, Group Chairman, & CEO Mr. Nikitha Grero, we are proud to carry forward the Lyceum commitment to providing accessible, high-quality English-medium education while nurturing the values that shape responsible citizens.

Our Lyceum Curriculum up to Grade 8 provides students with a strong and enriching educational foundation. Thereafter, they have the opportunity to choose between the Pearson Edexcel or National Curriculum, allowing them to pursue pathways that best suit their individual aspirations. In the near future, more qualifications, recognition and pathways will be added to the curriculum opportunities provided. Yet, some of the most important lessons in a child’s education happen beyond the textbook.

Our wide range of co-curricular opportunities—from Athletics, Art, Chess, Choir, Cultural Swimming, Badminton, Dancing, Drama, Karate, and Junior Band to school events and competitions—encourages students to discover their passions and develop skills that cannot always be measured by marks. These experiences teach them to collaborate, lead, perform, persevere, celebrate achievement, and learn from challenges.

Our facilities have been thoughtfully developed to support this broader vision of education. With IT laboratories, a library, music, dance, art, speech and drama rooms, media room, playground & swimming pool facilities, a health centre, daycare, and book studio, we are creating spaces where young minds can learn, imagine, create, and express themselves with confidence.

Above all, we believe that no child should be defined by a single achievement or limitation. Every child has a unique story, a different strength, and a world of possibilities waiting to unfold. Our responsibility as educators is to recognise that potential, nurture it with care, and provide every opportunity for it to flourish.

We also recognise that meaningful education cannot happen in isolation. Parents and teachers are partners in shaping a child’s future. The confidence our students carry, the values they develop, and the dreams they pursue are strengthened when school and home move forward together.

As Lyceum Avissawella enters the next chapter of its journey, we do so with ambition in our hearts and confidence in our young people. We will continue to embrace new ideas, encourage innovation, strengthen inclusivity, and create an environment where every learner feels valued and inspired.

From seven students to a growing community of hundreds, our journey reminds us that extraordinary things can emerge from humble beginnings when there is vision, dedication, and a shared belief in the power of education.

Our story is still being written.
