Project Rise Again – When Gratitude Becomes Hope

In times of adversity, the true strength of a community shines brightest. Project Rise Again, initiated by Lyceum, stands as a powerful testament to what compassion, unity, and collective action can achieve when hearts come together for a common purpose.

What began as a simple appeal to support children affected by the Ditwah disaster soon transformed into a meaningful movement—driven by the generosity and goodwill of Lyceum parents, staff, students, and the wider community. It became more than a donation drive; it became a shared promise to protect a child’s right to learn, dream, and begin again.

As at 31st December, over Rs. 10 million worth of school supplies were collected through Project Rise Again. From this, 224 stationery packs, valued at approximately Rs. 4.5 million, were distributed among Lyceum students and staff families. These carefully prepared packs ensured that no child within the Lyceum community would face the new school term without the essential tools for learning.

Extending this support beyond our immediate community, a further Rs. 4 million worth of educational supplies was officially handed over to “Manusath Derana” at the Derana TV Head Office, to Mr. Lakshiri Wickramage, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Derana TV. Through this partnership, Project Rise Again continues to reach children across the nation, with additional distributions planned as further needs are identified.

A particularly inspiring highlight of Project Rise Again was the wholehearted involvement of student volunteers from Lyceum Nugegoda, Panadura, and Wattala. Giving up their school holidays, these young leaders worked side by side with the Manusath Derana team, supporting the sorting and packing of supplies with empathy, responsibility, and dedication. Their actions beautifully reflected the values of service, leadership, and social responsibility that Lyceum seeks to nurture.

Beyond material support, Lyceum’s social media platforms have also played a vital role in Project Rise Again. Through a series of live discussions and awareness sessions, experts and educators came together to address post-disaster mental wellbeing, focusing on children, youth, and adults. These conversations encouraged positive thinking, emotional resilience, and innovative ways to rebuild lives, reminding the nation that healing is not only physical—but emotional and mental as well.

While significant milestones have been achieved, Project Rise Again continues its journey. The team remains committed to listening, responding, and extending support wherever possible—within the Lyceum family and beyond—ensuring that no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.

To every parent, staff member, student, and well-wisher who contributed in any way, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your kindness has restored dignity, confidence, and hope to children who needed it most.

Together, we rise.
Together, we rebuild.
Together, we keep hope alive. 💛 🇱🇰
