Young Talent with a Purpose: Inter Lyceum Art Exhibition and the Award Ceremony 2025 Successfully Celebrated in Aid of Rural Education
The Inter Lyceum Art Competition (ILAC) 2025 was held with great success on the 12th and 13th of July, respectively, at the J.D.A. Perera Art Gallery, Colombo, drawing both local and international attention. With the theme “ILAC in Aid of Supporting a Rural School in the Kurunegala Area,” the event brought together creativity, compassion, and community, in support of Thimbiriwewa Primary School—a rural school in need of educational resources and infrastructure.
This year’s ILAC was a true celebration of young artistic talent across 10 Lyceum International School branches island-wide. A total of 747 outstanding student artworks were selected at branch level to represent various categories including drawing, collage, 3D art, digital graphics, sculpture, and assembling art.
The event was further elevated by the generous support of Atlas and Academy of Design (AOD) as event sponsors.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Dharshan Thavaraja, a renowned actor, compere, artist, and art educator. The Guest of Honour was Professor Jagath Ravindra, former Dean of the Faculty of Visual and Performing Arts, whose presence inspired the young artists and attendees alike.
All submitted artworks were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, comprising Mr. Chandana Kumarasinghe, Mr. Anupa Indika, and Mr. W.M.A.N. Wasala, who brought expertise and insight to the judging process.
A major highlight of ILAC 2025 was the charity art auction, which featured selected student drawings. The auction received overwhelming interest from both local and foreign visitors, who collectively expressed deep admiration for the students’ creativity and the cause it supported. The proceeds from the auction will directly contribute to the improvement of facilities at Thimbiriwewa Primary School.
The event not only crowned young artists with well-deserved recognition but also showcased the power of art as a tool for social good. With free entrance and wide public participation, ILAC 2025 will be remembered as an occasion where art met heart, giving life to lasting memories and meaningful impact.
