Lyceum’s SWARA LIVE IN CONCERT: 748 Young voices harmonise to create a Historic Eastern Music Spectacle

On 15th February 2025, SWARA LIVE IN CONCERT, Sri Lanka’s largest school-based Eastern music event, took center stage at the Musaeus College Auditorium, Colombo 07. The evening was nothing short of magical, as 748 young voices from eight Lyceum International School branches — namely Nugegoda, Wattala, Panadura, Nuwara Eliya, Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Ratnapura—united in harmony to deliver a breathtaking showcase of talent, tradition, and innovation.

Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, Founder of Lyceum International Schools, addressed the audience with heartfelt words: “At Lyceum, our guiding vision, ‘We are born to teach,’ inspires us to shape global citizens who will reshape the future of our Motherland. SWARA embodies this mission, offering our students a platform to honor their rich heritage while stepping boldly into the global stage.”

The concert was honored by the presence of diplomatic dignitaries, including Mr. Thom Petchpugdepong, Counsellor of the Royal Thai Embassy; Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India; Mr. Adeel Sattar, Press and Culture Attaché of the Pakistan High Commission; and Mr. Yadi Suriahadi, Counsellor for Social and Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Indonesia. The event was also graced by eminent artists, Lyceum’s management, and supportive parents, all gathered to witness this exceptional cultural milestone.

Directed by Visharad Mr. Dilum Niranja, SWARA was more than a concert—it was a vibrant journey through the timeless beauty of the seven swaras, seamlessly blending the ancient with the modern. The visionary leadership of Dr. Mohan Lal Grero and Dr. Kumari Grero, Consultant Coordinating Principal, laid the foundation for this extraordinary initiative, with plans for SWARA to become an annual tradition of musical excellence at Lyceum.

SWARA was made possible with the support of ECU Campus – Sri Lanka (Platinum Sponsor), Wijeya Newspapers (Official Print and Web Media Partner), Zuse Technologies (Official IT Partner), Dream Team Media (Official Videography & Photography Partner), and NCG Speed and Green Energy (Bronze Sponsors). Special sponsors included Makeen Books, Lanwa, Lyceum Assessments, Lyceum Academy, MEP Solutions, Lyceum Campus, Jacobi Carbons Lanka, Book Studio, Heracle Adventures, and Commercial Bank.

As SWARA concludes, it leaves behind a legacy of inspired young musicians, a new era of Eastern music, and a shared vision of harmony that will continue to resonate for years to come.
