The Poson Poya Day celebrations at Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, were a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the entire school community. The event featured a series of vibrant activities, including traditional Bakthi Gee singing and a generous Dansala organized for all attendees.
The preparations for Poson Poya Day were carried out with great reverence and adherence to traditional rituals. The day began with a formal ceremony to invoke blessings and ensure auspicious beginnings. Students, teachers, and parents gathered early in the evening to engage in a chant Buddhist verses, setting a peaceful and spiritual tone for the event.
One of the highlights of the celebrations was the beautiful Thorana, an artistic display that depicted the Jataka tale of “Nigrodha Miga Jathakaya” through colorful lighting and intricate designs. The Thorana showcased the story of the compassionate and wise deer king, Nigrodha Miga, who selflessly offers his own life with the team to save his herd wisely, teaching virtues of kindness, sacrifice, and leadership. The visual and artistic representation captivated the audience and brought the ancient tale to life.
The Bakthi Gee segment, filled with melodious tunes, added a sense of serenity and cultural richness to the celebrations. A special mention goes to the students from our AEC Unit, whose enthusiastic participation highlighted their vocal prowess and passion for music. Their performance was a true testament to inclusivity and talent within our school, adding an extra layer of warmth and inspiration to the event.
The Dansala, a food offering tradition, was a heartwarming experience that embodied the spirit of community and sharing. It was meticulously organized by the school community, with the Scouts taking the initiative and leading the efforts to ensure its success, providing an opportunity for everyone to come together and enjoy a variety of delicious dishes.
The entire school community played a pivotal role in the preparations. Teachers guided students through the intricate details of traditional rituals, ensuring that every aspect of the event reflected cultural authenticity. Parents and volunteers dedicated their time to decorating the school premises, preparing food for the Dansala, and assisting with various logistical needs.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students, parents, teachers, and staff who contributed their time and effort to make this event a memorable one. The Poson Poya Day celebrations not only reflected our commitment to preserving cultural heritage but also strengthened the bonds within our school community.
