Please note that, after pressing a booking button it may take couple of seconds to load the interactive seating layout as we have to create and render around 1,630 BMICH seats in real-time. It could be even slower than that on older devices with poor performance. Please hold on while we process it. Kindly read the Rules & Guidelines below BEFORE making a reservation, so we can seamlessly check you in at the venue without an inconvenience.

මාත්රා | Maathra 15: The Awakening – Celebrating 15 Years of Sri Lanka’s Largest School-Based Cultural Dance Legacy
27th August 2026 | 4.02 PM & 6.58 PM | BMICH, Colombo
A new era awakens as Lyceum International Schools proudly present මාත්රා | Maathra 15 – The Awakening, the historic 15th milestone of Sri Lanka’s largest school-based cultural dance legacy.
Set to illuminate the grand stage of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 27th August 2026, Maathra 15 promises an unforgettable celebration of rhythm, heritage, artistry, and national pride. More than a performance, it is a powerful cultural movement — where tradition is reborn through the passion, discipline, and excellence of a new generation.
Conceptualised by Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, Founder of Lyceum International School, and nurtured under the visionary leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Kumari Grero, Consulting Coordinating Principal of Lyceum International Schools, Maathra has evolved over the past fifteen years into a nationally recognised artistic phenomenon. What began in 2008 as a school cultural initiative has today become a defining symbol of Sri Lankan cultural preservation and youth artistry.
This milestone edition, themed “The Awakening”, represents the rebirth of tradition for a new era — a bold artistic expression where the spirit of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage rises once again with renewed energy, creativity, and elegance.
Under the continued artistic guidance of Mr. Rasika Kothalawala, Senior Lecturer at the University of Visual and Performing Arts and official consultant to Maathra since its inception, the production continues to achieve remarkable artistic excellence. His creative insight and unwavering dedication have transformed Maathra into a performance of national significance, admired for its authenticity, discipline, and grandeur.
This year’s spectacular production is directed by Ms. Nisha Kothalawala, Head of Cultural Dance at Lyceum International Schools, featuring more than 750 exceptionally talented performers from across the Lyceum network. Through refined choreography, dramatic storytelling, and breathtaking stagecraft, students will bring Sri Lanka’s timeless dance traditions to life with passion and precision.
Performers representing Lyceum branches in Nugegoda, Panadura, Wattala, Gampaha, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, and Anuradhapura will unite on one national stage — showcasing not only artistic brilliance, but also the shared cultural values and spirit that define the Lyceum community.
Audiences can look forward to two extraordinary performances at 4.02 PM and 6.58 PM, welcoming over 3,000 distinguished guests, including diplomats, corporate leaders, alumni, cultural dignitaries, media representatives, and families from across the country.
Yet beyond the grandeur of lights, music, and movement, Maathra carries a deeper purpose. It stands as a reminder that culture is not merely inherited — it must be awakened, nurtured, protected, and passed forward. Through every step, expression, and rhythm, Maathra continues to inspire younger generations to embrace their identity and celebrate the beauty of Sri Lankan heritage in a modern world.
As Sri Lanka’s largest school-based cultural dance legacy reaches its historic 15th milestone, මාත්රා | Maathra 15 – The Awakening emerges not only as a performance, but as a national cultural statement — where heritage rises, rhythm speaks, and tradition awakens once more.
