29th All Island Age Group Scrabble Championship 2018

29th All Island Age Group Scrabble tournament was held recently at Lyceum International School Wattala. The tournament was carried over 7 rounds and two divisions, namely Junior Category (under 18) and Sub-Junior Category (under 13). There were 142 scrabble players participating under the Junior Category and 192 scrabble players participating under the Sub-Junior Category out of which 62 of the students were Lyceum Wattala Scrabblers.

In the Sub-Junior Category (under 13), Ahamed Akeel emerged as the Runners Up with a margin of +1985 by winning all 7 rounds. It is also Ahamed Akeel’s third consecutive year of being in the top 3 in this tournament.

Oneli De Silva was placed 10th with a margin of +712 by winning 6 rounds. Mihin Manvidu, Vojini Fernando, Eshan Perera, Akshatha Balachandran, Luvin Samarabandu and Sashen Perera was placed 21st, 27th, 30th, 31st, 33rd and 40th respectively by winning 5 rounds.

In the Junior Category (under 18), Chaniru Udukumbura was placed 8th with a margin of +930 by winning 6 rounds.

Hathfi Cassim, Deshaba Etampawala, Adshayan Balachandran was placed 17th, 24th and 27th respectively by winning 5 rounds.

Desan Silva, Kapishan Rajaratnam, Himaya Nammunige, Sanuli Ranasinghe, Ahamed Nibras, Narendran Joseph, Tiani Perera and Thenumi Onara was placed 34th, 40th, 42nd, 43rd, 52nd, 56th, 57th and 63rd respectively by winning 4 rounds.

In addition to the above achievements, Mihin Manvidu received the award of the Highest Word Score, (by gaining a score of 692).


Lyceum International School Wattala, Under 14 Girls became Champions at the Inter International Schools' Netball Tournament which was organized by Lyceum Ratnapura and held at the Lyceum Wattala Courts.

Lyceum Wattala was unbeaten in all preliminary matches and played against Gateway Colombo in the finals to win the Championship with a score of 12-11.

World Education Congress Global Awards Ceremony

Mr. Malith Kumarasinghe - Deputy Coordinating Principal of the Lyceum Group of Schools and Principal of Lyceum Nuwara Eliya  brought glory to both the School as well as Sri Lanka as a whole, by bagging the prestigious Education Leadership Award at the World Education Congress Global Awards held at Taj Lands End Hotel, Mumbai on 5th July 2018. This award was one that was only awarded to the best schools of the Global Education Community.

Mr. Malith Kumarasinghe personally thanked his parents, supporters as well as the management and teachers from Lyceum International School that inspired him to achieve many milestones in the field of education that led him to make this award a reality! He expressed his dedication to continue his pursuit of educational excellence for the further betterment of not only Lyceum International Schools but to the wider education community of Sri Lanka as well. We wish him all the very best indeed!




Lyceum International School Wattala won the Girls Overall Athletic Championship with 150 points at the Western Province Athletic Championship 2018 held recently at the Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo conducted by the Ministry of Education.
Lyceum International School Wattala Boys became 3rd with 125 points and the Girls Relay team was the Overall Runners Up.

Lyceum Celebrates its 25th Silver Jubilee with Random Acts of Kindness

Oscar Wilde has stated, “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention” Students of Lyceum International School Nugegoda conducted a series of projects under the theme “Random Acts of kindness”to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the school. The students initiated various projects to raise funds for a worthy cause to help people in need.

The projects carried out were as follows,

1.Distribution of dry ration packs worth Rs.5000/- each, to the support staff members by grade 1-5 students.

2.Donation of lenses worth Rs.200,000/- to the Teaching Hospital in Anuradhapura by Grade 6 students.

3.Renovations of selected support staff member’s house by the students of Grade 7 and the Lyceum Little friends.

4.Donation of Rs.134,000 towards the Little Heart Fund by the Grade 8 students.

5.Donation of items worth Rs.300,000/- to Sarvodaya Suwasetha orphanage in Moratuwa by the Grade 9 students.

6.Donation of items worth Rs.500,000/- to Ranaviru Sevana in Ragama by the Gr.11 students as well as Kandyan Dancing team and the Music Department. The Kandyan Dancing team also entertained them with dancing and singing

The project “Random acts of kindness” enabled the students to interact with different individuals in society, whose needs were diverse. It inculcated the values such as sharing, helping and empathizing towards one another, which are vital towards developing a fully rounded personality.

Undoubtedly many needy people benefited from this act.

The programme was initiated by the Head Master Mr.Kasun Dissanayake, teachers & students, with the blessings of the founder Mr.Moham Lal Grero, Coordinating Principal Mrs. Kumari Grero and the Director Mr.Nikitha Grero. The Principal, Mrs.Dulka Mendis also extended her support tremendously in making this project a success.

Lyceum has succeeded in creating complete individuals, providing them not only with quality education but also equipping them with the necessary skills to conduct any project with similar nature with courage and confidence to uplift the standards of the society. To celebrate 25 glorious years, the students of the school were able to lend a hand to many sectors in society by contributing in various ways.
