Concours de Francais - Annual French Language Competition

The French students of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda were invited by the prestigious Mayo College, Ajmer, Rajasthan, India to participate in their annual French Language Competition. Various countries competed in the contest and Lyceum International School, Nugegoda was the only school to be invited from Sri Lanka, having satisfied the criteria for the standard of French and the overall standing of the school.

Thus 5 selected students participated in the ‘Concours de Francais’ which was held recently, in the historic 80 acre campus of Mayo Collage.

The team consisted of Ayesha Hettige, who competed in the category of French Reading and won first place in her category, Nishrin Rieza for poetry recital, Mandira Dissanayake, solo song, Sansindu Abeysuriaya who competed in the Spelling Bee and Ramith Siriwardana who delivered a declamation on the topic of ‘Equality between sexes, myth or reality?’.

The team with their escorting teachers Ms.Udeshika Perera and Mr.Chamika de Costa were graciously received by the Mayo College students and staff who commented on the good behaviour and social skills of the students as well as their competency levels in Frenc
h.

As for the students, they gained invaluable experiences, not only in terms of academic advancement, but also by being in a social situation that demanded independence, a sense of responsibility and composure.

LYCEUM SCRABBLERS DO SRI LANKA PROUD AT WORLD YOUTH SCRABBLE CHAMPIONSHIP 2015

The World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) 2015 was held recently in Perth, Australia with the participation of 106 players from 16 countries. Out of 12 players from Sri Lanka, 4 were from Lyceum International School, Wattala.

Migara Jayasinghe of Lyceum International School, Wattala won the highest Game Score of 693 points, which is the highest score recorded at the WYSC since its inception in 2006 and Lambhotharan Yoganathan of Lyceum International School, Wattala was placed 8th. Nicholas Hong of Singapore became the champion whilst Sri Lanka won the best team award.

The oaths taking and prefects induction ceremony of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda was held under the patronage of Mr.Nikitha Grero, Director, Lyceum International Schools.

Lyceum Wattala Under 17 Cricket Champions for The Second Consecutive Year

Lyceum International School Wattala Team won the Under 17 Championship for the second  consecutive year playing against Wycherly International School Colombo in the Final held, recently at Health Grounds. The tournament was organized by Wycherly  International School , Colombo.

Lyceum Wattala Under 19 Girls Basketball Champions 2015

The International Schools Under 19 Girls Basketball Tournament organized by British School Colombo was held recently. Lyceum International School Wattala girls team led by Mandhari Fernando played against Lyceum International School Panadura, Colombo International School Colombo and Gateway College Colombo in their first round matches. Lyceum Wattala beat British School at the Semi Finals and the finals were played against Lyceum International School,  Nugegoda.

In the finals Lyceum Wattala scored 64 points and became Champions, while Lyceum Nugegoda scored 47 points and became runners up.

The awards for Best Defensive Player and Most Valuable Player was won by Lubna Morseth and Hazeena Abdul respectively.
