Best Actress Award at State Childrens Drama Festival

Taanawee Pathirennahe of Grade 6D in Lyceum International School, Ratnapura, was awarded the Best Actress’ Award in the Open Category of the above festival, held at the National Youth Auditorium, Maharagama on 14th October 2016. The festival was jointly  organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the State Advisory Board of Drama and chaired by Hon. S.B. Nawinna, Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development Affairs and Cultural Affairs.

Taanawee Pathirennahe was adjudged the Best Child Actress, for her role played superbly in the drama ‘’Penguin’’ (directed by Nilanka Namal Udumulla) as a baby penguin that positively changes the mind of its fellow penguins and the preying sea-lion, using love and kindness as weapons.

Right along Taanawee’s 6-year career at Lyceum International School, Ratnapura, she has shown, remarkable stage talents in singing, cultural dancing and acting, in addition to her studies.

Lyceum Ratnapura Brings Home SILVER & BRONZE from South Asian Aquatic Championship (SAAC) 2016


Versatile swimmer, Ushan Avishka Gunaratne of Lyceum International School, Ratnapura, was placed second (Silver Medal) in 200m Medley Relay, and third (Bronze Medals) in both 100m Butterfly Stroke and 50m Butterfly Stroke at the South Asian Aquatic Championship Meet - 2016, held in Sugathadasa Swimming Complex, Colombo, from 18th to 23rd October 2016.

Ushan had previously represented Sri Lanka at the 5th Asian Schools Swimming Championship - 2016, in Indonesia and the 8th Asian Age Group Championship - 2016 and came within the best 8 (finalist) in the former. In 2016, he made an Island Record in 100m Butterfly Stroke (59.79) at Sri Lanka Schools Age Group Aquatic Championship - 2016. He has been placed first in 100m and 50m Butterfly Stroke (his favourites) in many provincial meets since 2012. He also made two records in 100m and 50m at the International Schools Aquatic Championship of the TISSL ( The International Schools of Sri Lanka ) group.

In addition to swimming, he has performed well in several other school activities.
A Black Belt bearing Karate player, Ushan has represented Sri Lanka in  Japan in 2008 and in Malaysia (World Itosukai Karate Champ
ionship-2009). Subsequently, he bagged a number of victories in Kumite and Kata events in Sri Lanka.

An outstanding Kandyan dancer, endowed with grace and gusto, Ushan represented Lyceum Ratnapura at All Island School Dancing Festivals in several years and brought honour to the school as an artist, along with his team members.

Moreover, as a committed athlete in the school team, Ushan represented Lyceum Ratnapura at Sabaragamuva Provincial Athletic Meets in several years and the International School Athletic Championship (ISAC) Meet in 2013 and 2015.
Performing well in these meets, specially in throwing events, he brought credit to his Alma Mater. Additionally, as the Games Captain of Lyceum Ratnapura, he effectively discharged his duties in 2015 / 2016.

Having joined Lyceum Ratnapura in January 2005, Ushan Avishka Gunaratne is currently preparing for Cambridge A/L in Science in 2017; and the school community of Lyceum Ratnapura wishes him all the best. 


Lyceum Wattala Winners at The State Childrens Drama Festival 2016

The State Children's Drama Festival 2016 was organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the State Advisory Board for Drama on the instructions of the Ministry of Internal Affair, North-Western Development and Cultural Affairs  was held from the 20th to the 27th of September 2016 at the Tower Hall Maradana. Fifteen children's dramas under the limited category and six under the open category was staged at the final round of the Festival.

 The Award ceremony was held at the Maharagama Youth Centre on the  14th October 2016. Students of Lyceum Wattala showed their talent once again by winning for the 04th consecutive year with the majority of 13 Awards including the Award for the Best Drama of the Year “Happily Ever After”Directed by Sudarshana Bandara. Other awards included Best Actor-Female Sakina Jusar, Best Supporting Actor Devruk Ratnayake, Best Supporting Actor(Female) Tinara Kahanda, Merit Award for Acting Chamya Liyanage,Best Choreography, Best Stage Management, Best Set Design,Best Make-up, Best Costume, Best Stage Lighting, Best Music Director, and Best Script Writer.

Extraordinary Talents of Lyceumers

The children of the Lyceum International School Resource Room (Kohuwala & Nugegoda) performed “Let’s Dance” on 21st October 2016 which was a great success.

Mrs.Rosy Senanayake was the honourable Chief Guest, Mr.Mohan Lal Grero-Founder of Lyceum International Schools, Mrs.Kumari Grero-Coordinating Principal, Mr.Ahamed Aslam-Deputy Principal Middle School and Ms.Dulka Mendis-Head Mistress, Mr.Rajiv Ekanayake-Principal of Lyceum Ratnapura, HOD’s, office staff, parents and students were present at the concert.

The concert was held to celebrate the talents of the children in the Resource Room. They sang, danced and had a great time on stage. Well done to these beautiful children.

Lyceum Nugegoda are the CHAMPS of the U-15 Division III All-Island Singer School Cricket Tournament

We are extremely proud to announce that the U-15 Lyceum Nugegoda team emerged champions at the above tournament when they beat St. Bernadette’s College Polgahawela with 158 runs for 7 wickets in 50.3 overs. This is the first time an international school qualified to play division 2 all island cricket against 400+ national schools!
A hearty congratulations to the Lyceum Nugegoda Cricket team and the tireless efforts of Mr. Sameera Pathum and the Sports Department for achieving this prestigious award.
