Inter International Schools Scrabble Championship 2016

Lyceum Wattala – Overall Champions for the 9th Consecutive Year

Lyceum International School, Wattala won the Lyceum Challenge Trophy for the Overall Champions for the 9th consecutive year at the Inter International Schools' Scrabble Championships on 14th February 2016. Lyceum International School Nugegoda won the Lyceum Challenge Trophy for the Runners – up.

Lyceum International School, Panadura, College of World Education and Leeds International School Secured the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively. 

This event was organized by Lyceum, Wattala for the 9th consecutive year. Mr. Kandhan Mahendran, President of the Sri Lanka Scrabble League (SLSL) was the Chief Gust and Dr. Lalantha Amarasinghe was the Adjudicator. 12 Schools, comprising of Asian Internationa School, Colombo International School, College of World Education, Gateway College, Rajagiriya & Kandy, Leeds International School, Leighton Park International School, Lyceum International School - Panadura, Nugegoda and Wattala, Royal Institute and Stafford International School participated in this tournament. A total of  43 teams comprising of 5 players each participated in 3 age cat
egories namely Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

MEDIA RELEASE International Schools Athletic Championships 2016


We, in the first instance, wish to convey our special thanks for your kind gesture by covering the 15th Inter International Schools’ Athletic Meet in the year 2015.We anticipate the same coverage this year too.

Inter International Schools’ Athletic Championship (ISAC) is the most important co-curricular event in the school calendar of all international schools.

The International Schools’ Athletic Championships (ISAC), which commenced in 2001, has now established itself as the flagship sporting event of the country’s international schools. 

ISAC 2016 will be hosted by Lyceum International School, the seventh time the school will be doing so since first being granted the honour in 2004.

The ISAC 2016 is scheduled to be held on 04th , 05th and 06th  March at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama, from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. each day. Lyceum took over the reins of hosting ISAC from Gateway College in 2004 and  the two schools took turns to host the event every three years. At the closing ceremony of ISAC 2015 once again Lyceum took over to serve as the Official Organiser of ISAC 2016.

Coordinating Principal of Lyceum International Schools in Sri Lanka, Mrs. Kumari Grero revealed
that since the launch of ISAC, the event has been elevated to international standards and acquired the status of an important national event.

During the past 15 years of its existence, ISAC has elevated the standard of athletics among TISSL-affiliated international schools to an extent where it produces skilled, professional athletes who represent Sri Lanka at foreign track and field athletic championships.

In order to maintain the same standards continuously , ISAC 2016 will be conducted in accordance with TISSL rules and regulations and those of the International Athletic Federation, and will include electronic timing and measurements.

ISAC 2016 will be held with the sponsorship of several esteemed organizations and entities. Two renowned corporate entities have come forward as sponsors to help this athletic event. Pearson-Edexcel signed up as the PRINCIPAL SPONSOR of ISAC 2016, while the McDonald's Sri Lanka tied - up as the CO-SPONSOR. Mrs.Grero said that she was delighted that several service providers both in Higher Education and other service sectors in Sri Lanka have also generously sponsored an event of this magnitude.

Lyceum Nugegoda as the Official Organizer also partnered with Soltrim International, Ceylon Biscuits Limited under brand Revello and Lyceum Careers as special sponsors. 

Wijeya Newspapers Limited under Daily Mirror, Sunday Times, Daily FT and Lifeonline generously offered support as the Main Print and Web Media Sponsor.

Under the special level of sponsorship category Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Lyceum Careers, Hirdaramani Group, Edu Geek and Mobitel Private Limited will join in to sponsor ISAC-2016.

Furthermore, Colombo Institute of Research & Psychology , Achievers Business School, ANC Education, Eduko Lanka/Universal College Lanka partnered as national higher education service providers and will sponsor the event.

Mr. Nikitha Grero Director of Lyceum International schools, Sri Lanka, speaking on this athletic meet said, ‘’ This is a time of renewing old friendships and building new friendships as we meet all our colleagues as well as new friends from other international schools. Though the true spirit of sportsmanship is to learn to face defeat, our competitors aim should be victory at all times by fair means.’’

Around 3,000 athletes from 24 international schools will compete in 130 events at the meet will be held in the following age groups. Under 7 Boys and Girls, Under 9 Boys and Girls, Under 11 Boys &Girls, Under 13 Boys & Girls, Under 15 Boys & Girls, Under 19 Boys & Girls and Under 20 Boys & Girls.

There will be over 300 officials who will conduct the competition under the rules of the Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka. Over 20,000 spectators including students, parents, relatives, staff members of all TISSSL member schools and cheering squads of participating schools are expected to be present.

The championships event is fully computerised with web-based entries to instantly access results and scores over the Internet through the ISAC website, designed and developed by the Department of Information Technology of Lyceum International School. This dedicated website will provide all necessary information including past meet records and a full list of competitors for this year’s meet. All athletes participating at the ISAC 2016 will carry a common identity card issued by TISSL, the governing body coordinating international schools in Sri Lanka ‘’ .

Lyceum Wattala Under 19 Girls Champions at the Inter International Schools' Netball Tournament

The tournament organized by Ilma International School was held on 7th February 2016. Lyceum

Wattala won the Championship defeating Gateway Colombo in the Finals by 21 - 5 held at Colombo St.

Josephs College Indoor Stadium.

Lyceum Wattala Under 15 Girls Champions at the Inter International Schools Basketball Tournament

The tournament organized by Colombo International School was held from September 2015 to

January 2016. Lyceum Wattala won the Championship defeating Lyceum Nugegoda in the Finals. Final

scores 44 - 37. The matches were held at Colombo International School Colombo on the 30th January 2016.

Lyceum International School Anuradhapura created a milestone in the history of international schools in the Anuradhapura District

Lyceum International School Anuradhapura, affiliated to the Lyceum Group of Schools, recently opened its new swimming pool at No. 128, Isurupura, New Kandy Road, Anuradhapura. The event was graced by the presence of the Secretary-General of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the Hon. Minister of Irrigation and Agriculture- Duminda Dissanayake.


Lyceum International School Anuradhapura created a milestone in the history of international schools in the Anuradhapura District, as this is the first swimming pool built by an international school in the area.


Addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony, Hon. Minister Dissanayake stated that he believed that Lyceum International School, as a leading international school in the country which had produced upstanding citizens for the country, would be a pillar of strength in improving the educational status of the Anuradhapura District. He went on to thank Founder Mohan Lal Grero for establishing a branch school in Anuradhapura, as the Lyceum Group of Schools had produced a host of valuable Sri Lankans over a period of 23 years.

He expressed his appreciation for establishing Lyceum International School
Anuradhapura and taking on the task of molding the children in the Anuradhapura area into adults who can conquer the world, as these children would then go on to developing the Anuradhapura District.


Speaking at the event, Mr. Nikitha Grero- Director of the Lyceum Group of Schools talked about the importance of sports and mentioned that it is a valuable teacher that teach children how to handle both the triumphs and defeats in life. He assured the participants that, having successfully become a school that provides special facilities to the children of the Anuradhapura area, the school is committed to providing an internationally recognized level of education while keeping our identity as Sri Lankan intact, and seamlessly mixing the ancient heritage of Anuradhapura, our values and culture with the modern world.


The opening ceremony was graced by the Head Mistress of Lyceum International School Anuradhapura- Ms. Dilrukshi Peiris, MP I. R. Ishaq, the staff members of Lyceum including the Deputy Sports Director of Lyceum International School- Mr. Nishantha Perera and the parents.
